What is the idea behind Egan & Sons?
We are a family business for 30 years that have strived to connect with the community we serve, "The Neighborhood". We are part of a wave of pubs with good food - "Gastro Pubs"; informal, inexpensive fun, yet with high standards. |
How would you describe Egan's food?
"Contemporary Irish Farmhouse", using the freshest ingredients, organic where possible, and locally sourced.

Where did the "stuff" come from?
Most of the woodwork came from Dublin, salvaged from a bar near Dublin Castle that dates to the mid 1800's. The artwork is by some of Dublin's leading contemporary artists: Guggi, Mick Mulcahy, David Quinn, Gerald Byrne, Nikki Purcell, Charlie Wisker, Gay O'Neil, and Simon Mcloed. The cow is an effigy orlikeness of Michael Flatley given to him as a gift, but never picked up (We don't think he liked it). |
The Odd Fellows sign and the metal cornicee came from across the street from a building which is now demolished. The Odd Fellows were an organization of men that did charitable work, originating in England several hundred years ago. They were considered "odd" because society was far less giving years ago. |
What is a "Snug"?
Prior to the 1940's, it was a place set aside for women to have a quiet drink, away from men and discreet from people that might pass comment "seeing a woman in a pub." It was always small and had half a wall for light and ventilation. |
How do you make the "Real Beer"?
We continue the second part of the beer making process: we take "wort", or "young beer", and ferment it, adding yeast and sugar, creating alcohol. We store it, chill it, and "fine", or clarify it and then carbonate and pump it straight to the bar. |
How many "Real Beers" do you have?
At any time we can make 4 batches every month. The Fermentation Vessels hold 8 kegs, or approximately 800 pints each. |
What is a growler?
As a micro brewery, we are allowed to sell our product to the public to take home. The container is called a "growler". It must have our name and a top that can be easily resealed. The growler holds 4 pints. We will charge $15 for each, with a deposit of $5 on each growler. Obviously, the customer can return with the growler, to be refilled as many times as they wish. The deposit will be returned should they wish to give the growler back. |
